Spine ("we", "our", "the app") is a daily book quote application. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

Spine collects minimal data to provide the service:

Anonymous identifier: When you first open the app, a random anonymous user ID is created. No name, email, or personal information is required.
Push notification token: If you enable notifications, your device's push token is stored so we can deliver daily quotes.
Notification preferences: Your preferred notification time and timezone.
Favourites: Quotes you mark as favourites are stored against your anonymous ID.
Device hemisphere: Determined from your timezone to deliver seasonally appropriate quotes (northern or southern hemisphere).

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not require or collect your name, email address, or phone number.
We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising SDKs.
We do not sell, share, or monetise your data in any way.
We do not track your location beyond the timezone-based hemisphere detection.

How We Use Your Information

To deliver your daily quote notification at your preferred time.
To remember your favourite quotes.
To select seasonally relevant quotes for your hemisphere.

Data Storage

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase (AWS infrastructure). Access is protected by row-level security policies, meaning each user can only access their own data.

Third-Party Services

Spine uses the following third-party services:

Supabase — Database and authentication (privacy policy)
Expo Push Notifications — Notification delivery (privacy policy)
Vercel — API hosting (privacy policy)

Data Retention and Deletion

Your data is retained for as long as you use the app. Since accounts are anonymous, uninstalling the app effectively ends your association with the stored data. If you would like your data explicitly deleted, contact us at the email below with your anonymous user ID (available in the app settings), and we will remove all associated data within 30 days.

Children's Privacy

Spine is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
